Arctic Council member states will develop oil-spill response treaty


 

On October 12th in Reykjavik, Iceland, the Arctic Council member states agreed to sign a binding treaty on Arctic oil-spill response. The eight countries will work together over the next eight months to develop an agreement that will involve information sharing and response exercises and will ensure that all are equally prepared both to prevent and to respond to oil spills in Arctic waters.
